Ylon Schwartz Wins Event#27: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E

Ylon Schwartz Wins Event#27: $1,500 H.O.R.S.EYlon Schwartz has won WSOP Event #27: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E, after defeating a field of 889 players over four days on his way to capturing a bracelet, as well as the $267,081 first-place prize.
The New Yorker was a chess master before turning his attentions to poker in 2004. Four years later, Schwartz finished 4th at the 2008 WSOP Main Event for $3,794,974 and now 2012 sees the 41 year old stamp a gold seal of approval on a career which has so far netted him $4,624,754. Commenting on his remarkable victory in Las Vegas, Ylon Schwartz said:
“I’ve been a professional poker player for a long time and it means a lot to get this. When you’re doing something forever you want to get a feather in your cap, you get to the pinnacle of whatever it is you’re doing, and for a poker player this is it.”
Amongst some of the notable names cashing in at the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E was Chip Jett in 19th ($7,116), Cliff Josephy in 16th ($8,641), Rep Porter in 14th ($10,669) and Allen Cunningham in 10th ($17,150).
After the final table got underway, Ylon Schwartz then eliminated  Marlon Milne in 8th ($22,358), John Rogers in 6th ($40,169), and Stephen Chidwick in 3rd ($112,106) before going heads-up against 4 times WSOP bracelet holder David Chiu. Despite starting fairly even in chips, Schwartz managed to pull ahead before closing out his formidable opponent, later explaining:
“It just a shoot-em-up at that level, playing 100k/200k limits. The player that gets hot is just going to win. I got a lot of strong hands in Omaha eight-or-better, and I just kept betting and luckily he didn’t have anything.”
The final table payouts were as follows:
1: Ylon Schwartz – $267,081
2: David Chiu – $164,960
3: Stephen Chidwick – $112,106
