Poker Prodigy Annette Obrestad So Far Fails To Make Impact At WSOP 2010
June 14, 2010 10:25 amThere were high hopes riding on Norwegian poker pro Annette Obrestad going into her debut appearance at the World Series of Poker in the United States.
Annette Obrestad, known online as Annette_15, won the inauguaral WSOP Europe in 2007, the day before her 19th birthday, and has since gone on to accumulate $3,075,000 in live tournament cashes.
Until recently, Annette has been too young to compete in the tournament in America but since turning 21 in September has set her sights firmly on making an impact at the prestigious tournament, and said she was looking forward to entering as many events as she could.
Twenty three events later and Obrestad has so far managed only a 72nd place finish at the $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Event and collected $10,497 for her efforts.
Despite her relatively low profile on the felts at this year’s WSOP, the Norweigan “wonder kid” has been making more of a splash outside of the playing arena, with her recent scathing outburst on women players, whom she said sucked badly.
Not content to slight the whole female poker playing community, Annette Obrestad then decided to attack ‘The Godfather of Poker’ himself, 10 times bracelet winner including 2 main events, Doyle Brunson. As she explained at the time:
“Online players process information so much faster and don’t let their egos get in the way of becoming a better player. No disrespect to Doyle, but I’d rather play him.”
Well, the WSOP is not even half way through, and Annette will still have plenty of opportunities to back up her exuberant confidence and make her mark on this year’s WSOP. However, if all else fails and she comes away empty handed, she has still one very good option open to her.
Ever the southern gentleman, Texas Doyle has cordially extended an invitation to the young pro, who is almost a quarter of own his age, and said; “By the way, I’m at Bobby’s Room almost every day if she really wants to play.”
Now that would be one game worth watching!
