Phil Ivey wins 11th WSOP bracelet

Phil Ivey Biggest Online Poker Loser of 2015

Phil Ivey has claimed sole possession of second place on the all-time World Series of Poker bracelet list after winning his 11th career bracelet this week in Las Vegas.

Ivey recorded his 11th WSOP win in the 2024 WSOP $10,000 Triple Draw Deuce-to-Seven Lowball Championship. Along with the bracelet Ivey also cashed $347,440 for the tournament win. It was Ivey’s first WSOP bracelet win in a decade as he last posted a WSOP victory in 2014.

Prior to his most recent WSOP win Ivey had been tied for second place on the WSOP bracelet win list alongside Johnny Chan, Erik Seidel, and the late Doyle Brunson with 10 wins. Ivey only trails Phil Hellmuth the record holder for WSOP bracelet wins who has 17 in his jewelry case.

One interesting difference between Ivey’s title list and those of Hellmuth, Chan, Seidel, and Brunson, is that none of Ivey’s wins have come in No-Limit Hold’em events.

In this year’s $10,000 Triple Draw Deuce-to-Seven Lowball Championship Ivey was the last man standing from a 149-player field. An unscheduled fourth day was needed to crown a champion with three players remaining including Ivey, Danny Wong, and Jason Mercier. At the outset of the final day Ivey was last in chips at the table.

Mercier was the first to hit the rail. In Mercier’s final hand he showed 9-7-5-3-2, but it was bested by Wong’s 8-7-6-4-3. For those confused, in triple draw deuce-to-seven lowball the lowest hand wins.

When heads-up play began Wong had a slight edge over Ivey in chips. Shortly into heads-up play Ivey won a big pot to takeover the chip lead. On the final hand of the tournament Ivey drew two cards while holding J-J-6-4-3 and luck was on his side as he drew to the best possible hand 7-6-5-4-2 to win the tournament and his 11th bracelet.
