Phil Hellmuth's Amazing WSOP 2011: Comments From The Pros
July 7, 2011 9:51 amGoing into WSOP 2011, 11 times bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth said he had a good feeling about his chances at the world class tournament series.
Hellmuth explained at the time he was making some adjustments to his game to help deal with the new breed of aggressive young players, but his comments were soon dismissed by pros and fans alike, who are used to the immodest rants of the 46 year old, whose last WSOP bracelet came in 2007.
However, Phil Hellmuth has succeeded once more in gaining the admiration and respect of poker enthusiasts everywhere after his remarkable performance at this year’s WSOP.
Phil Hellmuth has now cashed 5 times at WSOP 2011, finishing 2nd place on no less than three occasions for a total pay-out of $1,591,004. His latest runner-up finish at the much respected $50k Poker Players Championship incorporating eight different poker disciplines has also helped dispel the talk that he is purely a one track No Limit Hold’em horse.
After his latest performance in the $50k mixed-event, the pros have been weighing in on their take on Hellmuth’s incredible feat and here are some of their comments:
Mike Matusow

“I think (people) just love to hate him for whatever reason. Just seeing him on TV, acting like a brat and whatnot makes you want to hate him. But when people get around him, they love to talk to him. It’s kind of a love-hate relationship. I think Phil’s a great guy.”
Tom Dwan
“Obviously I feel for Phil. I had the same kind of thing happen last year when I finished second.”
Owais Ahmed
“I’ve played with Phil a lot this series. He’s a great guy, and underneath all the bad antics he’s a true gentleman and I hope the best for him.”
