Shiina Okamoto and Michael Mizrachi made waves at the 2025 World Series of Poker this week after winning the same event again.
Okamoto is quickly making the case to be included in the list of best female poker players in the world. Two years ago, in the 2023 WSOP $1,000 Ladies Championship she emerged from obscurity to finish as runner-up. Last year she returned to the event and settled unfinished business by winning the event. This week she tackled the event once more and astounded the rest of the 1,368-player field by repeating as event champion.
Following the repeat win Okamoto has now won $474,594 in this event alone in the last three WSOPs. Her career tournament winnings are now approaching a million dollars at $877,201.
During this year’s Ladies Championship Okamoto dominated the final day of the event with only seven players remaining. Her final table run was so dominant when she reached head-up play versus Heather Alcorn she had 25.1 million in chips to Alcorn’s 2.275 million. Alcorn moved all-in with A-2 against Okamoto’s pocket nines and after failing to improve she was eliminated giving Okamoto the repeat.
While Okamoto was repeating in the Ladies Championship Mizrachi did the unthinkable by winning the prestigious $50,000 Poker Players Championship (PPC) for the fourth time. The PPC is a mixed event comprised of nine versions of poker, including No-Limit and limit Hold’em, Seven Card Stud and Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better, Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, Razz, and No-Limit and Limit 2-7 Single Draw.
His fourth PPC is Mizrachi’s seventh WSOP bracelet win. His other three bracelet wins included €10,400 No-Limit Hold’em Split at the 2011 WSOPE, $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better at the 2019 WSOP, and the $888 No Limit Hold’em Crazy 8’s at the 2024 WSOP Online.
Not only did Mizrachi have to master several poker variations in the PPC he also faced a field made of many of the top poker players in the world. Just a few of the legends in the field included, Daniel Negreanu, Benny Glaser, Phil Ivey, Scot Seiver, Dan Cates, Bryn Kenney, and Brian Rast.
For his latest PPC win Mizrachi won $1,331,322. His combined WSOP winnings, which includes more than 100 cashes is just over $11 million.
