June 3, 2014 1:01 pmKyle Cartwright has won the WSOP $1k NLHE Event (#4), after besting a field of 2,223 players over three days on his way to capturing his first ever gold bracelet, and taking home his biggest score to date of $360,435.
The 5-times WSOPC winner now takes his live tournament earnings to $1,012,785, and commenting on his latest victory in Las Vegas, said: “Man this means a lot. I haven’t played the Circuit at all lately. I went and played a few events but winning a bracelet has been my whole life dream and now it’s finally come true. I’m so excited and happy, ready to go out and party. Going to have fun tonight.”
The $1k NLHE event succeeded in creating a huge prize pool worth just over $2 million and amongst those notable players then managing to cash in at one of the 243 paid spots was Humberto Brenes in 233rd ($1,801), Athanasios Polychronopoulos in 209th ($1,801), Amanda Musumeci in 128th ($2,401), David Peters in 61st ($4,843), Andrew Lichtenberger in 46th ($5,744), and Jeff Gross in 13th ($16,132). By the time the final table of nine had been reached, Kyle Cartwright was the table leader with twice the chips of his nearest opponent, and more than ten times those of the short-stack Jason Paster.
Cartwright (9-7) then proceeded to eliminate Robert Kuhn (A-10) in 7th for $45,635, before being dealt pocket queens and doing likewise to Jeremy Dresch (A-K) in 6th for $61,041. After Cartwright’s pocket nines subsequently sent Ylon Schwartz (4-4) to the rail in 3rd ($157,855) the heads-up phase of the competition then got underway with Cartwright holding a 2-1 chip lead over Jason Paster.
Nine hands later the defining hand was played with Cartwright’s A-Q up against the pocket fours of his final opponent. The dealer then put out a Q-5-2-J-Q board to consign Jason Paster to a runner-up finish worth $223,418, while Kyle Cartwright was awarded the WSOP gold bracelet. Commenting on the experience he has gained over the years playing on the WSOP Circuit, the Tennessee resident said:
“The first [WSOPC} gold ring that I won, I would say that I wasn’t really a strong player, at all. Then I played on the Circuit more and now, I have all these friends around me and I can ask them questions all the time. We talk about poker a lot, all different hands, tips, and advice. It all helps out.”
