2016 WSOP: Russian Ortynskiy Wins $3k Six-Max PLO Event
June 22, 2016 12:55 pmA total of 580 players entered Event #30: $3k Six-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha to create a prize pool worth $1,583,400. Three days of intense action later, and it was Russian pro Viatcheslav Ortynskiy who would walk away with a coveted gold winner’s bracelet, as well as $344,327 in prize money.
Ortynskiy now becomes only the 10th Russian player ever to win a WSOP bracelet, with both Viatcheslav Zhukov (2011,2012) and Vitaly Lunkin (2008,2009) having previously captured two titles a piece. Following his famous victory the 36-year-old pro described the experience as “amazing”.
The $3k Six-Max PLO event paid 87 money places, and amongst the notable pros seeing a return on their buy-ins was Eli Elezra in 40th ($6,658), Paul Volpe in 37th ($6,658), Max Silver in 35th ($7,795), Humberto Brenes in 25th ($9,363), Mike Watson in 22nd ($11,534), Christian Harder in 17th ($14,561), and Sean Winter in 8th ($33,744).
Viatcheslav Ortynskiy then entered the final table as the chipleader, and subsequently proceeded to eliminate George Wolff in 5th, followed by Randy Ohel in 3rd, and Rafael Lebron heads-up to claim a career first WSOP title. The win now pushes Ortynskiy’s career earnings to $1,052,850, with his other WSOP cashes including in 2013 finishing the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. event in 3rd for $108,701, and the $5k H.O.R.S.E. in 4th for $94,664, and in 2014 finishing the $10k Limit Omaha Hi/Lo in 5th for $110,113.
