2015 WSOP To Give Serious Boost To WSOP.com Traffic
June 1, 2015 2:48 amThe 46th Annual World Series of Poker is currently underway in Nevada, the state which launched the USA’s first regulated online poker site back in 2013. Last year, however, Ultimate Poker was forced to shut shop leaving WSOP.com with a virtual monopoly over the state’s iPoker market, and just like last year the site is once again set to benefit from a huge traffic boost as thousands of players descend upon Las Vegas to take part in the showcase live tournament series.
In 2014, a 24% rise in WSOP.com traffic was noted during the first week alone, and this year it’s predicted that the 68 event schedule will result in WSOP.com player numbers rising by at least 50% from its pre-2015 WSOP level of 170 cash players over a 7-day period. Reasons why the site expects an increased boost in 2015 is many fold, a chief factor of which being that the WSOP has 11 more events this year, with particular emphasis on providing low buy-in events to appeal to more recreational players. One such event is the “Colossus” $565 no-limit hold’em tournament, which offers a guaranteed $5 million prize pool and has already broken the record for the biggest ever live event with more than 20,000 runners.
A landmark online bracelet tournament, the $1,000 WSOP.com Online No-Limit Hold’em, is also expected to tempt players onto the WSOP.com site during their stay in Vegas, a tournament that has already created a level of excitment amongst players, with 2012 WSOP Main Event champion Greg Merson, stating:
“My favorite part of the schedule is the online bracelet. Online has been a big boost for the game and rewarding the industry with a bracelet is amazing.”
Finally, this year players are not just allowed to use their laptops to access the WSOP.com site, but they will also be permitted to use their mobile devices to compete online whilst at the tables. The overall effect should be to give Nevada’s premier iPoker site a significant injection of life during the seven weeks the 2015 WSOP is scheduled to run.
