2015 World Series of Poker Schedule Announced
December 24, 2014 1:25 pmThe dates have now been announced for the 2015 World Series of Poker, with the long-running tournament series slated to get underway on May 27th at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The competition will run for a total of 49 days, and will culminate in the $10k WSOP Main Event reaching its final nine players on July 14th.
As well as including popular tournaments such as the Millionaire Maker, Monster Stack, Little One for ONE DROP, and Seniors Event, which together with the Main Event accounted for 31,444 of a total 82,360 participants in 2014, a number of new events will be included in the 2015 schedule. This includes a $5 million guaranteed tournament called The Colossus, whose buy-in of just $565 is the lowest seen at an open WSOP event in 35 years.
“Load up the entire gang – the home game, the spouse, whomever you know that enjoys the game. The Colossus is going to feature a historic prize pool at this buy-in level and it can only happen at the World Series of Poker,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart.
Other confirmed events include the ONE DROP High Roller on June 28th, with its $111,111 buy-in price tag, still significantly lower than the $1 million buy-in needed to enter the Big One for ONE DROP which will be on its biannual break in 2015.
The 2014 WSOP produced a record turnout for the series’ 45-year history, with its 65 events attracting 82,360 players from 110 countries to create a prize pool worth more than $227 million. Whilst impressive, Ty Stewart says he believes 2015 will prove even more spectacular, commenting:
“We believe the WSOP is uniquely able to deliver the big event with life-changing money for some and a life-experience for all. We are going to proudly stage the kinds of events which draw players from all around the world while also staying true to our heritage of contesting all variants of poker.”
Today’s preliminary 2015 WSOP schedule will be followed by a full event schedule expected to be confirmed in January.
