Maurice Hawkins sets WSOP Circuit ring record

2018 WSOP Schedule Announced

Just over two weeks ago Maurice Hawkins tied the record for most WSOP Circuit Championship rings when he claimed his 12th career ring.

Hawkins now sits alone with the record after claiming his 13th career ring earlier this week.

On April 15 Hawkins won his 12th career WSOP Circuit Championship ring at Harrah’s Cherokee to tie Valentin Vornicu for the record. He left Vornicu behind this week after winning his 13th WSOP Circuit championship ring at the Circuit’s stop at the Horseshoe Tunica.

Hawkin’s record-setting win came in the $400 No-Limit Hold’em Monster Stack tournament. He bested a 432-player field in the tournament to cash $31,372, and more importantly, claim his 13th ring.

In the tournament Hawkins entered the final table with the chip lead. However, when it came down to heads-up between Hawkins and Hamid Izadi, a two-time WSOP Circuit Championship ring winner, Izadi initially held the chip lead.

That didn’t last long as Hawkins chipped away at Izadi’s stack before taking over the lead.

On the final hand with Hawkins now holding the chip lead Izadi pushed all-in preflop and Hawkins made the call. Izadi had As-4h and was behind when Hawkins showed pocket Jacks. The board ended up 10h-3h-Kc-6d-2c and failed to improve Izadi’s hand giving the tournament and the ring to Hawkins.

With win Hawkins lifetime live-poker earnings now sits at just over $3.7 million. From that total just over $1.7 million has come on the WSOP Circuit which is also a record.

Hawkins won his first WSOP Circuit Championship Ring back in 2008 at Harrah’s Atlantic City.
