Mark Wahlberg Loses $45k On Single Spin Of Roulette Wheel
December 16, 2014 11:28 amAmerican actor Mark Wahlberg has revealed he lost $45,000 on the single spin of a roulette wheel at the Wynn casino in Macau, after his even bet on black failed to hit. Luckily for Wahlberg, he had just won all that money playing at the blackjack tables, and so easy come, easy go. Furthermore, the actor’s gambling spree was part of his research for a movie project called “The Gambler,” a story about a gambling drug addict originally portrayed by James Caan in the 1974 movie of the same title. As Wahlberg explains:
“It’s just part of the job. I prepare physically and mentally for everything that I do, and I like doing both because you submerge yourself into the character and the world and you live it ‘til it’s over.”
Wahlberg, 43, made his revelation to Jimmy Fallon last week on “The Tonight Show,” whom he told he was just finishing off “Transformers 4” when he decided to carry out a little extra research for “The Gambler” movie, which is expected to hit cinemas on December 25th.
Recounting his high-stakes tale, Wahlberg said he didn’t have any money on him when he entered the Macau casino, but managed to tap the guys he was with for a few dollars before heading over to the blackjack tables. The casino manager subsequently took an interest in Wahlberg’s appearance, and luck, apparently, as the actor hit a the manager he had never witnessed before in which Wahlberg was dealt two aces, before splitting them, receiving another ace, and then being dealt a Jack, Queen, King.
“I hit blackjack three times. Needless to say, I won a lot of money. And like my character in the movie, I took every chip off the table and walked right over to the roulette wheel, put it all on black..and lost everything.”
Nevertheless, Wahlberg said he left the casino with a big smile on his face, having lost none of his own money, and when his friends asked him he what he was doing, Wahlberg told them it all made sense in the context of his upcoming film, stating; “Just wait until you see the movie, you’ll get it.”
