'Face The Ace' Reality Poker Series To Debut On NBC
July 22, 2009 9:35 amThe beginning of next month sees the start of an exciting ground breaking poker show called ‘Face The Ace’ , which will mark the first time a poker related show has made it onto prime time television.
The show is set to get under way on Saturday, August 1st 9-10 p.m. ET and will offer the contestants an opportunity to win $1 million and all they have to do is beat up to three poker professionals to do it.
Steve Schirripa, who played Bobby “Bacala” Baccalieri in the Sopranos series, will be hosting the show and says: “Most people don’t get to compete against their favorite athletes in sports like football or basketball. This show gives contestants an incomparable opportunity to test their skills against some of the best poker players in the world. The same people they’ve read about or have watched on TV are the ones they have to defeat for chance at winning life-changing money.”
The rules of the show require that the qualifier chooses a poker professional from behind four doors whom he will play heads-up no limit hold’em for $40,000. If the qualifier wins he will be given the choice of either keeping the $40,000 or playing another poker pro (or ‘Ace’) for $200,000. If the qualifier wins that match too he can then either keep the money or compete against one other pro for a shot at the $1 million top prize. The catch, however, is that if at any point the contestant loses the match he will walk away empty handed.
The poker pros will be competing fiercely too as there is the incentive of a $10,000 donation to a charity of their choice with each match they manage to win.
The ‘Aces’ or poker professionals will be rotated throughout the series and have amassed over 41 WSOP titles, 11 World Poker Tour wins, and almost $100 million in live tournament winnings. They are Patrik Antonius, Andy Bloch, Allen Cunningham, Chris Ferguson, Phil Gordon, Gus Hansen, Jennifer Harman, Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Howard Lederer, Erick Lindgren, Mike Matusow, Huck Seed, Erik Seidel, and Gavin Smith.
It would appear that NBC has produced yet another winning poker programme to go with its already impressive line up of shows, which include “Poker After Dark” and the “National Heads-Up Poker Championship.”
