WPT to Launch Tournament Series in India

WPT to Launch Tournament Series in IndiaThe World Poker Tour (WPT) and India’s biggest internet poker room Adda52.com have announced a strategic partnership which will see a WPTDeepStacks India series and WPT India Player of the Year award launched on the sub-continent.
At this stage, three qualifying events have been organized that count towards the WPT India Player of the Year, with more expected to be added over time. The currently running Deltin Poker Tour Player of the Year has also decided to join the collaboration, with the newly formed India POY tour schedule as follows:
July 20-24: $540 Deltin Poker Tour Main Event Goa
Sep 6-11: $540 Deltin Poker Tour Main Event Goa
Nov 7-13: $1,000 WPTDeepstacks India Main Event
There are currently just three states that allow casino gambling in India, namely Goa, Daman and Sikkim. It is therefore no surprise that all three tournaments organized so far are situated in the western state of a Goa, a popular tourist resort known for its beaches, biodiversity, and world heritage sites.
The first two tournaments will be held at the Deltin Royale Casino, which is advertised as “India’s largest and most luxurious casino”, while the $1,000 WPTDeepstacks India Main Event will take place onboard a floating ship, and will be the WPT India Player of the Year Award’s last qualifying event of 2017.
Commenting upon its new strategic partnership arrangement, Angelica Hael, VP of Global Tour Management, stated:
“With a burgeoning poker community in a country with a population of more than 1.3 billion, India is one of the most important territories in the global poker landscape. Together with our partner Adda52.com, the WPT looks forward to not only sharing the WPT experience through the expansion of WPTDeepStacks to the region, but also giving Indian players incremental value with the WPT India Player of the Year award.”
In the meantime, the growth of poker in India was given a further boost this week after another popular online poker site called PokerHigh agreed a deal with the King’s Casino in Rozvadov to send online qualifiers to the partypoker LIVE Million Germany sheduled to take place at the venue from June 02-05.
