World's Biggest Poker Tournament Held Outside USA
September 2, 2014 12:17 pmThe Grosvenor G Casino in Coventry has become the setting of the largest poker tournament held outside the USA after smashing the previous record set at the Beijing Millions in China of 2,732 players.
Last week, 3,394 players (2,274 entries, 1,020 rebuys) turned out for the £120 GUKPT Goliath Main Event to create a prize pool worth £339,400 ($569,243), eclipsing the guaranteed prize pool offered by the organizers of £250,000. Four days later, and Ryan Foster (Q-7) called Mark Adams’s (7-6) eight big blind shove, and after the board rolled out Q-3-J-A-4, Mark Adams finished the runner-up for £40,700 ($68,262), while Ryan Foster was crowned the champion for a £62,320 ($104,523) payday.

Although impressive, the World Series Of Poker in Las Vegas regularly boasts player fields of more than 6,000 people, but online tournaments leave their live counterparts far behind, with PokerStars holding the current record of 225,000 people.

* Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier played 62 Sit-n-Go tables to break the record for the ‘Most Online Poker Tables Played in One Hour’, and even managed to finish with a profit.
* Phil “Unabomber” Laak played poker for 115 consecutive hours to earn the record for the ‘Longest Marathon Playing Poker by an Individual.’
* Damon Shulenberger holds the record for the ‘Longest Continuous Poker Tournament’ after competing in the Iron Man Poker Challenge in Manila for a total of 48hrs 55 mins and 58.5 seconds.
* Randy “Nanonoko” Lew holds the record for the ‘Most Hands Recorded in an Eight Hour Session”, having played 23,493 hands whilst multi-tabling between 25 and 40 tables.
