Will “The Thrill” Failla Wins Borgata Summer Open For $238,301

Will “The Thrill” Failla Wins Borgata Summer Open For $238,301The Borgata in Atlantic City holds more than just a few good memories for Will “the Thrill” Failla, who considers the casino one of his luckiest gambling venues. One can hardly argue with the facts, either, as last week the poker pro won an impressive 17th career live tournament title, seven of which have now been won at the Borgata.
“I love playing at the Borgata. It’s the house that Thrill built. I run good there, feel good there, love it there,” commented Failla.
Prior to taking down the tournament, Failla said that he was having “an incredibly rough summer”, with a glance at his poker results showing he had earned just short of $100,000 for the whole year. Failla’s latest victory, however, added a further $283,301 to that tally, whilst also pushing his career earnings to $4,816,478.
The $2,500 Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship attracted 497 players to create a prize pool worth $1,143,100, and offered 45 paid money places. Amongst the number of talented pros who subsequently saw a return on their buy-ins was Olivier Busquet in 38th ($5,544), Brian Lemke in 32nd ($6,098), and Matt Glantz in 11th ($14,414). The tough final table also featured such notable players as Paul Volpe (5th), Tyng Low (6th), Jack Duong (7th), and Mike Linster (9th), who commenting on his 10 years of experience playing with Failla, said:
“Will’s been doing this for a long time. He plays a bit different than most people do as far as making big folds and getting away from hands in tough spots that most people would bust out on.”
Will Failla subsequently made it all the way through to heads-up play where he defeated Patrick DiMartino to claim the title, and his first win since getting married to his new wife Sharon in December 2014.
Final Table Results:
1st Will Failla $283,301
2nd Patrick DiMartino $163,549
3rd Simon Lam $99,793
4th Gregory Weber $80,389
5th Paul Volpe $63,202
6th Tyng Low $52,668
7th Jackduyph Duong $42,135
8th David Eilers $32,155
9th Michael Linster $22,176
10th James McKeon $14,414
