Thomas Beckstead Wins Poker Tour Bicycle Casino For $102k
May 30, 2013 1:00 pmThomas Beckstead has won the Card Player Poker Tour Bicycle Casino main event, after defeating a field of 369 players on his way to capturing the title, and collecting the $102,010 first-place prize.
According to the Hendon Mob database, the 27 year-old Californian pro only cashed in at his first live tournament this year, and with his latest victory in Los Angeles now takes his tournament earnings to $146,129. Commenting later on his win, Beckstead explained:
“[This is] pretty much cloud nine for me. Since I was about nineteen I’ve played poker for a good part of my income. When I started to play tournaments again this year, a lot of it was because I wanted to get that six-figure score and to get that bracelet, that trophy..some hardware to put on the mantle at home. For me it’s been kind of a long journey, and this is definitely a little bit of vindication.”
By the time the $1,100 buy-in tournament reached its last table of nine, five-months pregnant local lady Nichoel Jurgens was the chip leader, with the “Live At The Bike” regular cash-game commentator then making it all the way through to heads-up play.
Unfortunately for Jurgens, she was unable to overcome her last opponent and the final hand was played with Jurgens re-raising all-in preflop holding A-6 to Beckstead’s pocket jacks. The board subsequently rolled out K-9-6-5-8 to relegate her to a runner-up finish worth $52,110, while Thomas Beckstead was crowned the 2013 Card Player Poker Tour Bicycle Casino $1,100 main event champion.
The final table payouts were as follows:
1 Thomas Beckstead $102,010
2 Nichoel Jurgens $52,110
3 Rubin Chappell $34,900
4 Ho Shin Lee $24,340

6 Pogos Simityan $12,525
7 William M $10,735
8 Zaher Samaan $9,050
