Steve O'Dwyer Wins Second High Roller Event at LIVE MILLIONS UK

One week after Steve O’Dwyer took down the Partypoker £25,500 Super High Roller for £450,000 ($592,448), the US player has delivered yet another winning performance in the same competition. This time around, the 36 year-old pro took down the £10k version of the event, ultimately besting a field of 105 players to walk away with a top prize worth £314,000 ($410,027).

Steve O’Dwyer

Steve O’Dwyer’s latest victory boosts his live tournament winnings to $24,798,602, taking him above David Peters to move into a number 10 spot on poker’s ‘All Time Money List’. Furthermore, he has now amassed an incredible $4,820,874 this year alone, meaning that he is currently just $58,953 behind his best year to date set in 2015. With almost three months left until the close of 2018, few gamblers would bet against O’Dwyer now reaching yet another pinnacle of his illustrious career.

£10,000 High Roller

The Partypoker £10,000 High Roller got underway Friday at the Dusk Till Dawn club in Nottingham. The tournament eventually drew an impressive sized field of 105, although its prize pool still came in £54,000 less than its £1 million guarantee.

Italy’s number one, Mustapha Kanit, subsequently became the last player to leave empty-handed after running his pocket jacks into the aces of Dominik Nitsche, after which all eleven players remaining were guaranteed a minimum cash of at least £22,50. Following the departures of Juan Pardo Dominguez, Adrian Mateos, and Fabrizio Gonzalez on Day 3, the official final table of eight was reached.

Final Table

At the final table, Dominik Nitsche (A-K) got proceedings underway after eliminating Anthony Elliott (A-J) in 8th. Next, Michael Zhang (8-8) took care of Joao Vieira (A-K) in 7th, before being dealt A-Q and knocking out Chris Brammer (10-10) in 6th.

It was then the turn of Steve O’Dwyer’s to go on the ascendancy, starting with a pocket kings versus A-J confrontation to prematurely bring Zhang’s run to an end in 5th. O’Dwyer would go on to eliminate all other remaining players at the table, including Dominik Nitsche (4th), and Preben Stokkan (3rd) before going heads-up against Gianluca Speranza for the title.

Heads-Up Recap

O’Dwyer started the final battle with a 2:1 chip lead over Speranza, and despite the latter managing to pull even at one stage, he quickly fell behind once more against his formidable opponent. In an emphatic ending to the event, Speranza eventually pushed his last 10bbs to the center of the table holding 7s-3s, only to walk into the pocket aces of O’Dwyer. The board subsequently ran out 5s-3d-2d-8c-Qs to relegate Speranza to a runner-up finish worth £193,000.

Meanwhile, Steve O’Dwyer collected £314,000 for yet another stunning win, also marking his 9th six-figure score of the year so far.
