Sean Yu Triumphs at 2016 WSOPC Planet Hollywood

Sean Yu has won the 2016 WSOPC Planet Hollywood main event, after besting a field of 528 players over four days, including Eli Elezra heads-up, to claim a second career WSOPC ring, as well as $170,286 in prize money. Following a victory which pushes his live tournament earnings to $947,901, Sean Yu commented:
“It feels amazing. I’ve been coming out every year and wasn’t successful, but this year, when I started Day 1A, I got crippled down to 3,000 chips and bagged an average stack. Day 2, I bagged up pretty short and was like second from the bottom today. But it just felt like destiny at some point.”
The $1,675 WSOPC main event was held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, and featured a prize pool worth $792,000. Amongst the recognizable names subsequently seeing a return on their buy-ins was Matt Salsberg in 41st ($3,318), Dan O’Brien in 22nd ($6,162), Steve Gross in 21st ($7,247), and Jordan Cristos in 15th ($10,423).
After the final table got started, Sean Yu took care of Brandon West in 7th, followed by Kevin Calenzo in 5th. Meanwhile, 3-times WSOP bracelet winner Eli Elezra eliminated Keith Doering in 8th, before his pocket jacks got lucky against Daniel Needleman’s pocket aces to usher in heads-up play against Yu for the title.
At this stage, Elezra held a slight chip advantage over his remaining opponent, but Yu managed to turn things around to having a 4 to 1 lead when the deciding hand was played with Elezra moving all-in preflop holding K-6. Yu made the call with A-4, and after the dealer produced an A-Q-5-3-5 board, Elezra finished the runner-up for $105,281, while Sean Yu was crowned this year’s WSOP Circuit Planet Hollywood champion.
Final Table Results:
1: Sean Yu – $170,286
