Scott Baumstein Wins WPTDS Main Event for $223kLast week, Scott Baumstein claimed the biggest score of his professional career after taking down the $1,100 WPTDeepStacks Hollywood Main Event for $220,238. Following a victory which now pushes his live earnings to $1,833,668, Baumstein stated:
“I feel good, I’m just glad it’s over. It was a long day, I ran well, and that’s what you have to do to win poker tournaments.”
The $1,100 WPTDS Main Event was held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida and attracted 1,366 players to create a prize pool of $1,325,020.The tournament subsequently attracted a slew of recognizable pros, and amongst those seeing a return on their buy-ins was JJ Liu in 158th ($1,679), Jake Schwartz in 154th ($1,679), Loni Harwood in 41st ($4,310), Joshua Beckley in 13th ($12,943), and Joe McKeehen in 10th ($16,697).
After the final table was reached, Baumstein (A-7) sent Ness Reilly (K-Q) to the rail in 8th, followed by Ramon Miquel in 7th. Baumstein’s pocket sixes then hit a set on the flop to see off Justin Harvell (J-10) in 6th, while his pocket jacks, too, made three of a kind to eliminate AJ Kelsall (A-4) in 5th.
Continuing his final table assault, Baumstein subsequently knocked out Stephen Smith in 4th, and Matt Zarcadoolas in 3rd to take a 2-1 chip lead over Lumni Zhuta into heads-up play. Despite managing to put himself back in contention several times, however, the final hand was eventually played with Zhuta moving all in pre-flop holding 6-3. Baumstein made the call with a commanding A-Q hand, and after the dealer laid out a K-9-5-9-5 board, Lumni Zhuta finished the runner-up for a $155,126 payday.
Meanwhile, Scott Baumstein was crowned the 2018 WPTDS Main Event champion, and in addition to collecting the tournament’s top prize was also awarded a $3,000 WPTDeepStacks Championship package.
