PokerStars Macau Poker Cup Championship (MPCC) Won By Devan Tang
December 21, 2009 10:13 amDevan Tang (32) has won the inaugural Macau Poker Cup Championship (MPCC) Main Event, after beating a field of 157 players to take down the title and the HKD $727,600 (US $93,832) top prize.
It sure has been a busy few days for this online player from Hong Kong, having already won the MPCC Knockout Bounty event earlier in the week. He was even caught short as the MPCC Main Event got underway, and although showing up late for the tournament, he still managed to eliminate two opponents in the very first hand he played.
The field at the Grand Lisboa Casino had been reduced to 24 players by the end of Day 1, and going into Day 2 Devan Tang was sitting on an average stack of 143,000 chips. However, by the time the last 10 players had taken their seats at the final table, Tang had managed to capture the chip lead and was sitting on a 610,000 high stack.
Utilising his big stack to full effect, Tang was then able to bully the table until he found himself heads-up against Michael Chang and holding a 5 to 1 advantage over his young adversary from Taipei.
The heads-up battle was finally resolved when Michael Chang was dealt Ad Qs while Tang was sitting on As Kh. After the board came 10d Kc 8s 3h, Chang decided to push all-in with his gut shot straight draw, but was called by Tang’s top pair. A 6 on the river didn’t change things and Chang ended the tournament as the runner-up and collected HKD $490,100 (US $63,200) for his efforts.
Devin Tang’s victory in the HKD $20,000 (US$2,600) Main Event now brings to a close the highly successful PokerStars sponsored series of tournaments which comprised the nine day Macau Poker Cup Championship.
