Phil Ivey Faces-Off With Shane Warne In Australia

The 2012 Aussie Millions is currently in full swing down under, with the $10,000 Main Event attracting 153 players on Days 1A, 187 players on Day 1B and 317 players on Day 1C for a combined field to 657.
With a total prize pool of AUS$6.57 million and an estimated $1.314 million going to the eventual winner, the prestigious tournament has attracted some of the biggest names in poker.
Day 3 of the Main Event saw two such notable names clash as ‘The Tiger Woods Of Poker’ Phil Ivey faced-off against the Aussie cricket legend turned poker professional Shane Warne.
The 42 year-old former Australian international cricketer has an endorsement contract with 888 Poker to represent them at poker events around the world including the Aussie Millions.
At this year’s event, Ivey (85k) and Warne (85,300) tangled in one of the biggest hands on the day after Phil Ivey was dealt 8h-6h to Warne’s pocket rockets. With three players in the hand, the flop of Ah-Qh-Jh saw Ivey lead out for 5k, only to have George Moussa raise to 10,500 with Warne calling behind. Phil Ivey then went into the tank for a minute before re-raising to 30,000, forcing Moussa out of the hand, but with Warne pushing over the top for his remaining stack.
With no help from the turn or river, Shane Warne subsequently found himself reduced to just 300 chips and was out the next hand, later tweeting:
“My aces got cracked by Phil ivy’s 8 6 of hearts Flop was A,K,J of hearts – both all in.. Bang – horror I should have folded Sorry…Shattered – played great all day – 15 mins to go after 13 hours to get my A’s cracked Goodnight & thanks again for your support x.”
Other players joining Warne on the rails throughout the day included Joe Hachem, Erik Seidel, Daniel Negreanu, Sam Trickett, Chris Moorman, and Sorel Mizzi.
In the meantime, Phil Ivey’s stack increased to 185,000,  and he eventually finished Day 3 in 4th position, and 6th in the competiton overall.
