Phanora Prom Triumphs At MSPT Golden Gates Casino for $123,180A total of 510 players entered the $1,100 Main Event at the Mid-States Poker Tour Golden Gates Casino to create a prize pool worth $494,700. Two days later, and it was Phanora Prom who emerged atop of the field to claim the tournament’s trophy, and its first place prize of $123,180.
The Main Event attracted some of poker’s most talented pros, including MSPT Team Pro Nick Pupillo, 2015 MSPT Colorado champion Kane Lai, Colorado pro Bryan Devonshire, and Jose Serratos. Although none managed to cash in one of the 54 money spots, a number of notable pros did, including Adrian Buckley in 50th ($1,979), MSPT Team Pro Matt Alexander in 20th ($2,721), and double WSOP bracelet winner David Warga in 13th ($4,947).
After the final table had been reached, Phanora Prom (Q-Q) eliminated Ross Reichert (J-J) in 8th ($14,098), and Ben Keeline in 6th ($22,755), before being dealt A-J and doing likewise to Don Angstead (K-10) in 4th for $35,370. Phanora Prom then sent Aaron Thomas to the rail in 3rd ($44,523) to force heads-up play against Sammy Aweida for the title.
As the final battle commenced, Phanora Prom held a 6 to 1 chip advantage over his remaining opponent, and two hands is all it would then take before the deciding hand was played with Prom shoving preflop holding A-6. Sammy Aweida made the call with A-8, but unfortunately for him the dealer produced a 6-A-2-K-9 board to eliminate him in a runner-up position worth $69,258, while Phanora Prom was crowned the winner.
Final Table Results:
1 Phanora Prom $123,180
2 Sammy Aweida $69,258
