Pablo Gordillo Wins 2016 ESPT Madrid Main Event

Season 7 of the Estrellas Poker Tour got underway at the Casino Gran Madrid earlier this month, with an impressive 491 players entering its €1,100 main event on March 9th. Five days later, and it was Spanish pro Pablo Gordillo who emerged a top of the field to claim the trophy, as well as €69,746 ($76,857) in prize money.
While his 4th place finish at the 2014 EPT Vienna main event earned him his biggest score to date of $361,521, Gordillo’s latest victory in Madrid marked his first live career title, whilst also pushing his tournament winnings to $661,304.
Day 4 of the Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event saw eight players return to the arena, with Mario Navarro out in front as the chip leader, followed closely by Sergio Cabrera, and then Gordillo. Eventually, Cabrera and Gordillo would progress all the way through to heads-up play, with the former holding an almost 3 to 1 chip lead over his remaining opponent.
A deal was subsequently agreed in which the Cabrera locked-up €78,444 to Gordillo’s €64,846, leaving €5,000 and the title still left to play for. Gordillo was then able to forge ahead before the deciding hand was played with Cabrera (5-9) and Gordillo (4-7) moving all-in preflop. The J-2-8-9-10 which ensued sealed the deal, and so Sergio Cabrera had to be satisfied with a runner-up finish, while Gordillo was crowned the Estrellas Poker Tour main event champion.
As well as his live result, Gordillo is a prolific online pro, and in 2014 he famously won an incredible hat trick of tournaments, which included the Sunday Kick Off, the Sunday Storm and The Bigger $55, for a combined $101,060 in winnings.

1: Pablo Gordillo (Spain) – €69,846

3: Javier De Vicente (Spain) – €41,060
4: David Flores (Spain) – €32,330
