Negreanu Hoping For a Late Run at Poker Masters Series
September 18, 2017 3:04 pmThe Poker Masters is in full swing at the ARIA Resort and Casino in Vegas, with all but one of its five event schedule left to play. Luckily for Daniel Negreanu, that’s the $100,000 buy-in freezeout finale, as the Canadian superstar stands to collect an extra $1 million in bets if he wins more money than anyone else in the competition.
At the moment, however, Negreanu’s chances of winnings his wagers and picking up the Poker Masters Purple Jacket looks slim, as so far he has managed just one cash at Event #1: $50,000 No-Limit Hold’em, eventually booking an 8th place finish in the tournament for $102,000. That means he is currently ranked on the Purple Jacket Standings at number 21, a long way behind Germany’s Steffen Sontheimer out in front with $1,221,000, followed by three US pros, namely Bryn Kenney ($1,085,000), Nick Schulman ($918,000), and Brandon Adams ($819,000), all of whom have won an event each.
Ahead of the Poker Masters Series, Negreanu posted the following offer over his twitter account:
“Looking for action for PokerMasters?
I want to bet myself
-even money
-must win purple jacket
-$50k cap per player”
Nevertheless, there are a number of stipulations associated with the bet. These include any player accepting the wager also betting on themselves to win, and all bets off if someone not involved in the action wins the purple jacket. Apparently around 20 players decided to accept the bet, with the list of takers including the aforementioned Steffen Sontheimer and Bryn Kenney, as well as such pros as Doug Polk, Fedor Holz, Brian Rast and Adrian Mateos.
The way the wager is framed, though, means, Negreanu is only risking $50,000 for the chance of earning a cool million dollars. Needless to say, he will now be hoping that either he or one of the players not taking his bet lifts the $100,000 No-Limit Hold’em title, with this list of players including Erik Seidel, and Phil Hellmuth. Therefore, with only the one event left, all eventualities are still possible.
