Mustapha Kanit Records Historic Second Victory At 2014 Aussie Millions
January 29, 2014 11:55 amItaly’s Mustapha Kanit has just accomplished what no other players has ever managed before, namely to win two Aussie Millions tournaments in one series. Fresh off his victory at Event 2# $1,100 NLHE/PLO, in which he defeated a field of 1,302 players to claim the $196,000 first place prize, Mustapha Kanit has now taken down Event 4# $1,100 NLHE Six-Max event, besting a field of 494 players along the way to add a further $104,000 to his earnings.
In addition to his impressive Aussie Millions achievement, Mustapha Kanit’s latest win means he now boasts around $1.8 million in live tournament earnings, to go with the $1,462,671 he has won online playing under the screen name Lasagnaaammm
By the time the Six-Max event reached its final table, Mustapha Kanit was in second place behind Australian poker pro Daniel Neilson. Following Tanya Phu’s exit in 6th ($19,870), Paul Altis in 5th ($30,250), and Grayson Ramage in 4th ($40,620), Kanit then scored his first elimination when his pocket nines bested Daniel Neilson’s A-8 preflop shove to send the Aussie to the rails in 3rd ($51,040), and usher in the heads-up phase of the competition.
As the final battle commenced, Tam Truong held a 2.76m to 2.18m chip advantage over Kanit, who was then able to reverse the positions so he held a 4 to 1 advantage, when the defining hand was played. Truong (Ah-Kd) had shoved all in on a 9s-Jc-8c-Ks board, only to be called by Kanit holding Qc-10c. No card could now save Tam Truong and just like that he finished the runner-up for a $68,880 payday, whilst Kanit had taken down his historic second Aussie Millions title of the series.
