Michael Graffeo Triumphs at WPTDeepStacks Main Event for $290,687

The WPTDeepStacks Main Event took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood with 1,509 players paying its $1,100 entry fee to create a prize pool worth $1,460,730. At the end of almost a week’s action, Florida resident Michael Graffeo eventually took down the tournament to capture its $290,687 first place prize, as well as a $5,250 entry ticket into the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship scheduled for August.
Graffeo, 41, is a mortgage industry worker who cashed in at his first live tournament back in 2004. Following his latest victory, the semi-professional player now boosts his career earnings to $566,979, to go with the $42,510 he has won online playing under the screen name Nukediamond. Graffeo’s last live cash was back in June 2016, and the player says that he now intends to compete in more events going forward.
“The tournament and structure were great. The dealers and the staff are unbelievable. Seminole Hard Rock is a terrific place to play,” explained Graffeo after securing his biggest score to date.
The WPTDeepStacks Main Event attracted a number of notable pros, and amongst those cashing in at the event was Joey Weissman in 149th ($1,899), Ben Zamani in 109th ($2,483), Jeff Gross in 108th ($2,629), Kelly Minkin in 101st ($2,629), Kathy Liebert in 53rd ($3,506), and Mohsin Charania in 41st ($3,944).
The final table was subsequently headlined by Aaron Massey (9th) and Loni Harwood (3rd), but it was ultimately left up to Michael Graffeo and Dantonio Brown to decide the contest’s eventual winner. The two players subsequently started the heads-up phase fairly equal in chips, and after battling away for a while the deciding hand was played with Graffeo’s A-3 beating Brown’s pocket eights to claim the title.
Final Table Results:
