Maurice Hawkins Wins 6th WSOP Circuit Ring

In addition to being a top poker player, Maurice Hawkins can now add ‘seer’ to his impressive resume. Last week, the US pro released the following tweet:
“Calling my shot. I am going to win two tourneys in the month of April. I have never felt better in my life.#Hawksview#Winning.”
It didn’t take long for his prediction to come true, either, and after taking down the WSOPC Iowa $365 Monster Stack event for $19,477 the very same day, Hawkins then went on to do likewise at the $1,675 Main Event for $113,152. In so doing, he not only collected an impressive sixth WSOPC ring, but also pushed his live career earnings to $1,928,627.
The $1,675 Main Event was held at Harrah’s Horseshoe Council Bluffs, and attracted 321 players to create a prize pool worth $481,500. Amongst the notable pros then seeing a return on their buy-ins was Allen Kessler in 33rd ($2,875), Ray Henson in 20th ($4,902), Neil Scott in 19th ($4,902), Scott Stanko in 13th ($6,953), and Ryan Tepen in 12th ($8,460).
On the third and final day of the tournament, Ryan Phan subsequently took out JT Turner (6th), Bob Slezak (5th), and Mike Lang (3th) to take a 3-1 chip lead over Maurice Hawkins into the heads-up phase of the competition. Hawkins soon managed to reverse positions, though, and on the final hand was all-in holding 4-3 on an 8-4-4-Q board, but was behind to his opponent’s 6-4. Fortunately for Hawkins the river brought a 3, and so Ryan Phan had to then settle for a runner-up finish worth $69,962, while Maurice Hawkins was crowned the champion.
Final Table Results:
1 Maurice Hawkins $113,152
2 Ryan Phan $69,962
3 Mike Lang $50,813
4 Maxx Coleman $37,533
5 Bob Slezak $28,177
6 JT Turner $21,489
7 Daniel Shea $16,645
8 Mike Vanier $13,087
9 Jose Mendoza $10,444
