With his latest victory in Mississippi, the Kentuckian now adds a third career WSOPC gold ring to his achievements, which also includes $574,245 in winnings since his first tournament cash in 2007.
After the $1,600 Main Event final table was set, Kurt Jewell was lying 5th in chips out of the table of nine.
Jewell then scored his first elimination after calling Dustin Gardner’s A-J pre-flop shove with Kc-Qc. The board subsequently fell 6c-10c-Jc-7h-Ah to make Jewell a straight and dispatch Dustin Gardner in 5th for $49,093.
Kurt Jewell’s next victim was Jacob Bazeley in 4th place ($65,134), who went all-in with A-9 on a 4-9-4 flop, only to discover Jewell was sitting on quads. Continuing his roll, Jewell with pocket jacks then eliminated a short-stacked Dan Blakeman (A-6) in 3rd ($87,586), to go heads-up against Chris Thompson. As the heads-up battle commenced, Kurt Jewell was sitting on a 7.2 million stack compared to Thompson’s 5.6 million.
The lead then changed several times before Jewell managed to pull in front in time for the final hand of the tournament. Jewell had been dealt pocket tens to his opponent’s Qs-Js with all the chips going in pre-flop. The board then fell K-7-J-10-9 to relegate Chris Thompson to a runner-up finish worth $119,415, while Kurt Jewell was crowned the 2012 WSOPC Tunica Main Event Champion.
