Jamie O´Connor Wins 2012 GUKPT Luton
October 22, 2012 11:38 amJamie O´Connor has won the GUKPT Luton, after defeating a field of 155 players over three days on his way to taking down the title, and collecting the £45,760 ($73,417) first place prize. After his victory at the G Casino in Luton, Jamie O´Connor has now taken his live tournament earnings to $102,046, to go with his $376,775 won online under the screen name “EzGame89.”
The £1,070 buy-in tournament attracted a whole slew of pros to the event, including Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott, Luke Schwartz, Roberto Romanello, Sam Grafton, Julian Thew, Jeff Kimber, and James Mitchell. By the time the final table of nine had been set the tournament still had many tough competitors remaining, including Luke Schwartz, Shaun Conning, Tim Blake, Mitch Johnson and, of course, Jamie O´Connor.
Jamie O’Connor then proceeded to eliminate Andrew Hills in 6th (£7,630), before later being dealt A-K and calling a short-stacked Luke Schwartz’s (Q-6) all-in shove, who subsequently exited in 4th for (£12,400). With three players remaining, Jamie O´Connor (9-7) called Tim Blake’s 10-9 push on a 9-7-4 flop to dispatch him to the rail in 3rd (£20,150), thus heralding in the heads-up phase of the competition between O’Connor and Dean Swift.
At this stage, Swift was trailing in chips by 7 to 1 and after picking up 4d-3d decided to make his stand. Unfortunately for him, his opponent was holding A-10 and with no help from the board he finished the runner-up for £32,160, while Jamie O’Connor was crowned the GUKPT Luton champion.
The final table payouts were as follows:
1st Jamie O’Connor £45,760
2nd Dean Swift £32,160
3rd Tim Blake £20,150
4th Luke Schwartz £12,400
5th Mitch Johnson £9,690
6th Andrew Hills £7,360
7th Mark Karoullas £5,810
8th Shaun Conning £4,260
9th Tom Myland £3,100
