Hossein Ensan Crowned 2015 EPT Prague Main Event ChampionThe 2015 European Poker Tour Prague saw an impressive 1,044 players show up for the series’ final tournament, the €5,300 no-limit hold’em main event. Seven days later, and 51-year-old Hossein Ensan eventually triumphed over the field to lift the trophy, and walk away with the €754,510 ($825,660) first-place prize.
The German pro is no stranger to huge scores, and in 2014 finished the €5,300 EPT Barcelona Main Event in 3rd place for €652,667 ($860,091), and this year the €5,300 EPT Malta Main Event in 6th for €153,700 ($166,263). Following his latest victory in the Czech Republic, Hossein Ensan now pushes his live career earnings to $2,035,229.
The EPT Main Event was held at the Hilton Prague Hotel, and featured a prize pool worth €5,063,400. Amongst the notable pros then seeing a return on their buy-ins was Johnny Lodden in 117th (€10,280), Jude Ainsworth in 84th (€11,540), Adrian Mateos in 81st (€11,540), Ivan Demidov in 66th (€13,720), Niall Farrell in 40th (€16,200), Andrew Chen in 38th (€19,040), and Bruno Lopes in 18th (€35,800).
On the last day of play, six players returned to the arena fairly even in chips. Hossein Ensan subsequently eliminated Slaven Popov in 5th (€226,330), and Thomas Butzhammer in 4th (€294,180), before Gleb Tremzin took care of Ilkin Amirov in 3rd (€391,910) to usher in the heads-up phase of the competition.
At this stage, Ensan had 17.5m in chips to Tremzin’s 13.8m, so the two players agreed an even split in which each player was guaranteed at least €724,510, with €30,000 and the EPT title left to play for. Around five hours later, Ensan (A-A) reraised all-in on a Q-7-7-9-4 board, and after Tremzin (Q-J) made the call Hossein Ensan was crowned the 2015 EPT Prague Main Event champion.
Final Table Results:
1: Hossein Ensan €754,510
2: Gleb Tremzin €724,510
3: Ilkin Amirov €391,910
