Germany's Paul Hoefer Wins 2016 Aussie Millions $2,500 NL Event

Paul Hoefer has taken down the Aussie Millions $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em event, after besting a field of 190 players over two days on his way to capturing a LK Boutique Aussie Millions championship ring, as well as A$106,920 (US$74,515) in prize money.
The German pro now boasts $1,046,853 in live career earnings, with his latest payout representing his second biggest score to date. Hoefer recorded his biggest score only last year in Las Vegas after emerging atop of a 4,555 player field at the WSOP $1,111 No Limit Hold’em Little One for One-Drop event for $645,969.
After the final table had been set, Paul Hoefer (A-2) eliminated a short stacked Piyush Gupta (Q-9) in 9th, before being dealt A-K and doing likewise to Frank Williams (J-9) in 6th. When just three players remained, Hoefer then went all-in preflop holding 7h-9h only to be called by Mogens Hansen with Ad-2d. The Qh-8h-Jh-7s-Ah board which ensued sent Hansen to the rail in 3rd (A$44,890), leaving Paul Hoefer and Alex Grocott to battle it out for the title.
As heads-up commenced, Paul Hoefer held a 1.75m to 1m chip advantage over Alex Grocott, and a little less than 30 minutes later the deciding hand was played with Hoefer (K-3) and Grocott (10-5) going all-in on a K-10-4-J-K board.
After seeing the bad news, Grocott then had to settle for a runner-up finish worth A$70,565, while Hoefer was crowned the champion.
Final Table Results:
1 Paul Hoefer A$106,920
2 Alex Grocott A$70,565
3 Mogens Hansen A$44,890
4 Vic Spadavecchia A$36,335

In other Aussie Millions news, the $10,600 Main Event is currently into Day 3, with the tournament’s original 732 player field now reduced to just 40. Tony Dunst is leading the remaining hopefuls, with other top ten stacks including James Obst, Ari Engel, and Bobby Zhang.
