Fedor Holz Wins WPT Philippines Super High Roller for $3.46M
January 6, 2016 2:03 pmThe Philippines may have been a long way for Fedor Holz to travel, and the $200,000 buy-in Super High Roller may have come with the most expensive buy-in tag yet seen at a WPT event, but in the end it all proved more than worthwhile for the 22 year-old German pro. Following two days of intense action at the Solaire Resort & Casino in Paranaque City, Holz eventually triumphed over the 40 player field to collect a prestigious WPT title, as well as the event’s massive first place prize of $3,463,500.
In December 2015, Holz won the WPTA8 $100,000 WPT Alpha8 in Las Vegas for $1,589,219, which at the time represented his biggest score to date. Less than a month later, he has now shattered his own personal best, whilst also almost doubling his lifetime career earnings to $7,300,529. As a result he now moves up to number 5 on Germany’s all-time money list, behind Tobias Reinkemeier ($10,528,819), Philipp Gruissem ($9,717,200), Pius Heinz ($8,979,848), and Ole Schemion ($8,209,855).
As one can expect from a $200,000 rebuy Super High Roller, many of the game’s most talented players were in attendance at the event, with the final table including such players as Phil Ivey, Steve O’Dwyer, Dan Colman, and David Peters. Chinese player Devan Tang subsequently eliminated Dan Colman in 6th ($502,000), before Phil Ivey exited in 5th after his Q-J fell to Fedor Holz’s A-Q.
Holz then knocked-out O’Dwyer in 4th, while David Peters took care of Devan Tang in 3rd to set up the heads-up phase of the competition for the title. At the start, Holz held a 2-1 chip lead over Tang, and just a short amount of time would elapse before the deciding hand was played with Peters (A-Q) and Holz (7-7) moving all-in preflop. The dealer then laid out a J-5-5-K-K board to consign David Peters to runner-up finish worth $2,309,000, while Fedor Holz was crowned the 2016 WPT Philippines Super High Roller champion.
Final Table Results:
1. Fedor Holz $3,463,500
2. David Peters $2,309,000
3. Devan Tang $1,405,000
4. Steve O’Dwyer $953,700
5. Phil Ivey $656,500
6. Dan Colman $502,000
7. Paul Phua $401,600
