Davide Biscardi Wins IPT San Remo Grand Final
May 10, 2012 11:32 amItalian player Davide Biscardi has won the Italian Poker Tour San Remo Grand Final, after defeating a field of 418 players over five days on his way to capturing the title, and the €200,000 ($264,351) first place prize.
As the €2,000 buy-in event got underway at Sam Remo’s Casino Municipale, American Scott Baumstein was threatening to run away with the tournament right from the start eventually entering the eight man final table as the chip leader. The table consisted of an American, a Frenchman, a Pole, a Swede and four Italians, with Baumstein’s (3.321m) closest rival Philippe Clerc (1.63m) on half his stack, and Davide Biscardi (1.01m) way behind in fifth.
After two Italians exited the final table, Scott Baumstein’s luck, too, ran out and he was eliminated by Davide Biscardi in a disappointing 6th place for €32,500. Eventually, the heads-up was played out between Davide Biscardi and France’s Philippe Clerc, who was then reduced to a short stack before pushing his 6-5 pre-flop into the A-8 of Biscardi. With the board subsequently running out J-9-8-4-6, Philippe Clerc had to be satisfied with a runner-up finish worth €130,000, while Italian fans applauded Davide Biscardi’s popular home win.
Here are the final table payouts:
1. Davide Biscardi (Italy) €200,000
2. Philippe Clerc (France) €130,000
3. Jakub Michalak (Poland) €115,000
4. Mirko Schiano di Tunnariello (Italy) €60,800
5. Christer Lagerstrom (Sweden) €40,500
6. Scott Baumstein (USA) €32,500
7. Pasquale Braco (Italy) €24,300
8. Alessandro Longobardi (Italy) €16,220
