Three days of intense action later, and it would be David Kluchman who would triumph over the field to claim the title, as well as the biggest score of his career, after which he commented:
“I didn’t mind spending two bullets. Things went badly in the first one, and I flamed out pretty early, but I jumped back into Day 1a in the third or fourth level.”
Amongst the notable pros finishing in one of the main event’s 45 paid money spots was Ryan Eriquezzo in 31st ($3,165), Chris Csik in 25th ($4,070), Jackduyph Duong in 22nd ($4,692), and Brad St. Vincent in 16th ($6,501).
The final table also featured a talented line up of pros, with its first casualty Will Failla in 10th ($9,497), whose A-K preflop three-bet shove was cracked by Greg Himmelbrand’s A-9 on a Q-8-8-9-7 board. David Kluchman then proceeded to eliminate David Grandieri in 7th ($18,656), and Seunghwan Lee in 6th ($24,026), before being dealt pocket nines and doing likewise to a short-stacked Himmelbrand (Q-5) in 5th for $31,431.
Continuing his steamroll of the final table, David Kluchman then sent Spencer Champlin to the rail in 4th ($41,777), and after Yasin Ahmady (8-8) moved all-in on a 5-4-2 flop, Kluchman made the call with A-3 to eliminate him in 3rd ($56,531), and usher in heads-up play against Michael Thibeau for the title.
The final hand of the competition subsequently saw Kluchman moving all-in with pocket threes, and after Thibeau made the call with A-Q the dealer laid out a K-J-J-9-7 board to consign him to a runner-up finish worth $76,883, while David Kluchman picked up his first WSOPC title.
