Dan Colpoys Wins Mid-States Poker Tour Golden Gates

Dan Colpoys Wins Mid-States Poker Tour Golden GatesDan Colpoys has won the 2014 Mid-States Poker Tour Golden Gates, after beating a field of 453 players over three days on his way to capturing the title, and collecting the $114,156 first-place prize.
The $1,110 buy-in main event attracted a talented field to the Black Hawk casino in Colorado, and amongst the notable players cashing in at the event was Michael Martinez in 45th ($2,265), Aaron Gardner in 35th ($2,718), Lance Harris in 30th ($2,718), Phil Mader in 28th ($2,718), Blake Bohn in 22nd ($3,398), Brett Schwertley in 20th ($3,398), and Dan Dreyfuss in 13th ($5,889).
By the time the final table of ten had been reached, Dan Colpoys was out in front as the chip leader on a 3.9m stack, followed a distant second by Kris Wagner (1.66m), then Jonathan McCray (1.43m) and Danny Gonzales (1.24m). Also competing for the trophy was William Givens, Brad Zotti, Rosie Paules, Phanora Prom, Kou Vang, and Jonathan Haidsiak.
Dan Colpoys (K-J) then proceeded to call Haidsiak’s 10bb shove with 5-4 and after the board fell J-2-3-7-7, Haidsiak exited in 7th for $13,590. Colpoys (J-J) followed up by doing likewise to Kou Vang in 5th ($22,650), and Danny Gonzales in 3rd ($43,035) to go heads-up against Jonathan McCray for the title.
After a tough final battle, the defining hand was eventually played after McCray (K-Q) moved all-in on a J-8-3-6 board only to be called by Colpoys with 8-8. The 2 on the river was meaningless and so McCray had to settle for a runner-up finish worth $63,420, while Daniel Colpoys was crowned the 2014 Mid-States Poker Tour Golden Gates.
