Ceasars Cup Debuts September 25th

For those not familiar with this event, the Ceasars Cup is the poker equivalent to the Ryder cup where teams from North America battle it out against the best Europe has to offer.
The Ceasars Cup will make its debut at the 2009 WSOP Europe event, and each team will comprise eight players who will will try to win points for their teams in a series of matches, which will include heads up matches as well as team competitions.
This prestigious tournament is slated to begin on the 25th September 2009 and the respective team captains, namely Daniel Negreanu and Annette Obrestad have already started choosing the players who will be representing their continent.
Not surprisingly Negreanu’s first choice was Phil Ivey, the seven times WSOP bracelet winner who is widely considered one of the best players in the world. Joining team USA will also be last years WSOP main event champion, Peter Eastgate who at 22, was the youngest player ever to win the title. This will prove an interesting counter balance to Annette Obrestad who herself holds the record for being the youngest players ever to win a WSOP bracelet when she won the first ever World Series of Poker Europe Main Event in 2007. She was 18 at the time, one day short of her 19th birthday.I
Incidentally Obrestad is still not old enough to legally play live poker in the States and the tournament will be played in Europe. She is also a sponsored professional for Betfair.
Bruce Stubbs, the Director of Poker at Betfair said of the event, “What better way to showcase poker at the WSOP Europe than to pitch the elite poker players from both Europe and the Americas against each other. We all know that poker is a highly competitive game, but with pride, bragging rights, and the Cup at stake, this promises to be one of the highlights of this year’s poker calendar.”
