Brian Zimcosky Triumphs At 2014 Mid-States Poker Tour Majestic Star

Brian Zimcosky Triumphs At 2014 Mid-States Poker Tour Majestic StarEarlier this year, Brian Zimcosky placed third at the Mid-States Poker Tour Majestic Star for $28,141, but a few months on and the Michigan native has gone all the way this time and taken down the very same event. After two days of action, Zimcosky eventually topped a 228 player field at the $550 buy-in event to walk away with a first place prize worth $61,870 and summing up his remarkable achievement in a nutshell, explained:
“That’s the key to tournament poker. I got in three big flips, and I won all three.”
Forty-eight players entered the final day of the competition, and after the final table of ten had been reached Brian Zimcosky (A-4) then eliminated Mike Mustafa (K-Q) in 8th for $6,629. Zimcosky’s aggressive approach subsequently allowed him to build a nice chip lead, and after a few hours of action Zimcosky reached the heads-up phase of the tournament where he squared off against Alex Kaufman for the title.
Thirty minutes is all it would then take before the defining hand was played with Kaufman (Kc-10h) raising to 150k on the button, only to have Zimcosky (9-9) move all-in on him. Kaufman made the call with his remaining 1.3 million chips, and the Ac-4d-Jh flop which the dealer put out gave him some outs. However, the 7s and 7d on turn and river sealed his fate, and so Alex Kaufman was consigned to a runner-up finish worth $36,459, while Brian Zimcosky picked up the biggest score of his tournament career.
According to thehendonmob.com, Brian Zimcosky’s latest victory has now boosted his live tournament earnings to $202,770, and brimming with confidence after his success, described himself as “one of the best non-professional tournament players.”
Final Table Results:
1 Brian Zimcosky $61,870
2 Alex Kaufman $36,459
3 Brad Sailor $20,992
4 Bob Chow $17,017
