Boxing World Champion Carl Froch To Play Partypoker WPT500 UK
November 7, 2014 12:52 pmOn Sunday, November 9th, the Partypoker Dusk Till Dawn series will kick-off at the Nottingham casino with a £500 buy-in event (WPT500) spread out over seven starting days. Mike Sexton will also be there to host the WPT UK poker festival, and utter the traditional call of “shuffle up and deal”. Also in attendance will be Nottingham boxing superstar Carl “The Cobra” Froch.
Carl Froch, 37, is a four-times super middleweight world champion, and is the current WBA and IBF unified champion after defeating George Groves in May at a packed out Wembley Stadium in one of the biggest fights in the history of British boxing.
This time around, Carl Froch has set his sights on poker, and after he takes his seat at the WPT500 on Saturday, November 15th, he will be hoping to knock-out a few opponents on the way to winning a share of the £1 million guaranteed prize pool. Commenting on the action ahead, Froch said:
“To see a big World Poker Tour event come to my home city is great news for everybody in Nottingham – I hope we can pack Dusk Till Dawn like we did Wembley Stadium. I’m not the most serious of poker players but with a £500 entry and the chance to win a share of at least £1 million this tournament is very accessible so I look forward to playing for Partypoker. Make no mistake though, if you are at my table I want to knock you out! You never know if the poker goes well in Nottingham it could be time to take the big game to Vegas.”
The Dusk Till Dawn series will also include a WPT Main Event, the first time a major poker tour has been hosted in any British city other than London. Naturally, when the £3,000 buy-in WPT Main Event kicks-off on November 18th, there will be no lack of talented pros attending the tournament, including the likes of Sam Trickett, Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, Luke “FullFlush1” Schwartz, Toby Lewis, Barny Boatman, Marcel Luske, Craig McCorkell, and Sylvain Loosli.
Other events taking place at the WPT500 festivities include a £6,000 High Roller, a £2,000 six-max event, a £1,000 tournament, and a £500 Deepstack event. Online qualifiers for some of the events are currently taking place at Partypoker.
