Bobby Zhang Wins MPC Baby Dragon Event For HK$340,800
January 16, 2014 4:52 pmAustralia’s Bobby Zhang has won the Macau Poker Cup’s ‘Baby Dragon’ event, after overcoming a field of 332 players on his way to capturing the title, and collecting the HK$340,800 (US$43,948) first place prize. Following his remarkable victory, the 26-year old Zhang, commented:
“It definitely feels great to win the first Baby Dragon in my first poker tournament of 2014.”
The HK $6,000 (US$775) buy-in ‘Baby Dragon’ event attracted a good-sized field to the City of Dreams in Macau to create a prize pool worth HK$1,739,016 ($224,258). Zhang then managed to survive three days of poker action, and a tough final table of nine to make it all the way to heads-up against China’s Stephen Zhou.
After a tough final battle, the defining hand was eventually played when Zhang moved all-in preflop holding 9-3 and was called by a short-stacked Stephen Zhou with 6-7. The dealer subsequently dealt a J-3-9-8-Q board to consign Zhou to a runner-up finish worth HK$230,000 ($29,660), while Bobby Zhang was crowned the 2014 Baby Dragon champion.

The Baby Dragon event was one of a series of tournament taking place as part of the 12-day scheduled Macau Poker Cup (MPC). Up until now, the first few events have produced record turnouts for the MPC, with player numbers expected to rise further leading up January 16th and the showcase ‘Red Dragon’ HK $11,000 buy-in main event. Commenting on the series so far, PokerStars Director of Live Poker Operations in the Asia-Pacific, Danny McDonagh, said:
“I’m really impressed with the Baby Dragon turnout and the player feedback has been tremendous. Our goal to have a 1,000-plus field for the Red Dragon main event seems very likely.”
