Atanas Kavrakov Wins WPT National Cyprus For €75,000Atanas Kavrakov has won the partypoker sponsored World Poker Tour National Cyprus Main Event, after besting a field of 172 players over three days on his way to capturing the title, and collecting the €75,000 ($86,618) first place prize.
The €2,000 buy-in Main Event was held at the Noah’s Ark Hotel and Spa in the Turkish-occupied area of Cyprus, and created a prize pool worth €3,001,312 ($86,618). Amongst the notable pros then seeing a return on their entry fee was Erwann Pecheux in 18th (€3,800), Michael Mizrachi in 17th (€3,800), and Barny Boatman in 15th (€4,375).
After the final table got underway, Atanas Kavrakov (K-K) eliminated Ercan Olgun (A-J) in 8th for €9,900, before being dealt K-J and doing likewise to Marco Della Tommasina (8-9) in 4th for €24,800. Kavrakov (A-8) then followed up by dispatching a short-stacked Jacques Torbey (K-Q) to the rail in 3rd (€33,500) to herald in the heads-up phase of the competition against Iran’s Majid Ejlal Noubarian for the title.
As the final battle got underway, Nabourian held a slight lead over Kavrakov, but soon slipped behind by 2-1 before the deciding hand was played with Nabourian (A-10) four-bet shoving preflop into the pocket kings of his opponent. The dealer subsequently spread out a 6-K-K-10-A board to consign Noubarian to a runner-up finish worth €52,300, while Kavrakov with quad kings captured the WPT title in style, in so doing bringing the final 12-hour poker session to a conclusion.
Following his impressive performance, Atanas Kavrakov now boosts his live tournament earnings to $368,809, taking him to 7th place overall on the ‘Bulgaria All Time Money List’. Heading the list is Dimitar Danchev with $3,556,965 in winnings, followed in second place by Simeon Naydenov ($1,248,185), and Atanas Gueorguiev in 3rd with $1,164,829.
