Ari Engel Records Amazing 6th WSOP Circuit Victory
August 20, 2013 1:20 pmYoung tournament pro Ari Engel has just tied for the record number of WSOP Circuit titles ever won by a player, after capturing his sixth title at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut last week. On the way to achieving his remarkable feat, Engel had to first make his way through a 235 player field, collecting the first-place prize of $29,634 along the way.
This year alone, Ari Engel has now made 11 final tables, including victory at the $500 Borgata Spring Poker Open for $26,048, and with his latest win boasts live earnings of $1,126,486, to go with the $2,100,952 he has won online playing under the screen name ‘Ari’.
The $580 buy-in WSOP Circuit Foxwoods ($75,000 Guaranteed) attracted a tough field of amateurs and pros alike, and by the time the final table had been reached Ari Engel was second in chips, with up-and-coming star Aaron Massey close behind in third.
The two pros would then eventually meet heads-up, with Massey subsequently tweeting: “I’m heads up against @realAriEngel. He’s got 1.7million and is going for his 6th ring. I got 1.1 and I’m going for my 3rd. #BCP #Stallone”
The back-and-forth heads-up battle would then rage on for almost an hour before Engel relegated Aaron Massey to a runner-up finish worth $18,313, to capture his sixth WSOPC title and tie with Alex Masek for the all time lead. Commenting after his incredible victory, Ari Engel said:
“Aaron is an incredible player and I have an incredible amount of respect for his game. Also, I want to thank my parents for their continued support. I won two events last year and this is a great start.”
