Alvan Zheng Triumphs At 2016 Macau Millions Main Event

The 2016 Macau Millions main event was held at PokerStars LIVE Macau, and attracted 2,343 entries, making it the largest poker field in the history of the island resort. Commenting on the remarkable turnout for the main event, APPT President Danny McDonagh stated:
“I’m over the moon with the result and it’s safe to say that poker in Macau is still thriving. We increased the buy-in from HK$2,200 to HK$3,000 and decreased from six Day 1s to three so it was certainly a challenge to get here. But the structure adjustments that were implemented have clearly worked as intended and it’s a terrific accomplishment to break the record in half the amount of days.”
The HK$3,000 ($383) tournament subsequently offered a prize poll of HK$6,136,317 ($790,719), and emerging atop of the field after five days to claim its first place prize of HK$911,000 ($117,390) was none other than Chinese player Yifan Zheng. In 2013, Zheng finished the APPT Asia Championship of Poker in 3rd place for a HK$1,980,000 ($255,338) payday, and following his latest victory in Macau now boasts US$582,022 in live career earnings.
Zheng was the chip leader going into the final table of nine, and subsequently managed to progress all the way through to heads-up play where he enjoyed a 3-to-1-chip advantage over fellow countryman Quan Zhou. On the last hand of the tournament, Zheng (10-5) and Zhou (10-2) then moved all-in on a 2-5-10 flop with both players holding two pair. The 8 and 3 on turn and river changed nothing, and so Zhou exited the main event as the runner-up, while Yifan Zheng was awarded the title.
“Finally! I’m excited and overwhelmed,” exclaimed Zheng after his impressive victory.
Final Table Results:
1st Yifan Zheng HK$911,000 ($117,390)
2nd Quan Zhou HK$700,000 ($90,201)
3rd Guancheng Wu HK$530,000 ($68,295)
