2016 Aussie Millions Main Event onto Day 3

Australia is one of the most popular holiday destination in the world, with the beautiful Antipodean island attracting more than 7 million visitors each year. Likewise, the Aussie Millions in Melbourne has risen to become a major event on the poker calendar, with this year’s 24 tournament schedule drawing in thousands of poker players from both the Southern and Northern Hemispheres.
Currently underway at the Crown Casino is the Aussie Million’s showpiece tournament, the $10,600 Main Event, which this year attracted 732 players over three Day 1 starting flights, marking it the fourth largest attendance since the event was introduced almost two decades ago. In 2015, Manny Stavropoulos won the main event for AU$1,385,500, and this year the increased turnout means 80 players will see a return on their buy-ins, with AU$1.6 million earmarked for the eventual winner.
With three starting days and Day 2 now completed, a total of 150 players still remain in contention going into Day 3, lead by Australia’s Dylan Honeyman (517,200), Canada’s Jean-Pascal Savard (photo) with 455,200 in chips, then by Australia’s Bobby Zhang (425,900), and Austria’s Daniel Engels (421,300). Also with their main event hopes intact are Mustapha Kanit (269,000), Philipp Gruissem (260,100), Ari Engel (228,600), Stephen Chidwick (222,900), and Joe Hachem (139,700).
On the flip side, numerous notable pros have been eliminated, including the 2015 champion Manny Stavropoulos, Jason Mercier, Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Steve O’Dwyer, Tyron Krost, Celina Lin, and Bryan Huang. Randy Lew also hit the rail, after which he tweeted:
“Get ALL of my stack in with Aces vs QQ for a massive pot! And he hits the Q! #notlikethis #bustonoko #AussieMillions”
Day 3 is due to get underway on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. local time, when the money bubble is expected to burst.
