2010 Commerce Million Dollar Poker Tournament Won By Richard Bakovic
July 27, 2010 7:23 amRichard Bakovic has just won the ‘Commerce Casino Million Dollar Guaranteed Championship,’ after defeating a field of 3,300 players to take down the title, as well as the $173,500 first place prize.
Tournament director Matt Savage, organised the massive $1 million tournament and managed to guarantee the huge sum by holding five Day Ones, and allowing players busting out to re-enter on subsequent days.
The result was a competition with an impressive prize pool but for an affordable $335 buy-in. Consequently, a top field of pros was drawn to the Commerce Casino tournament, including John Phan, Maria Ho, Eric Mizrachi, Archie Karas, John Cernuto, Shannon Elizabeth, Nam Le, Al Barbieri, Phi Nguyen and David Plastik.
By the conclusion of all the Day Ones, the enormous field had been reduced to just 315 players, and two days later that number was further whittled down to 135 hopefuls.
Eventually, by the time just nine players were left in the tournament and had taken their seats at the final table, half a million in prize money was still up for grabs.
However, after three players were eliminated and the action crept into the early hours of Monday morning, the six players left decided to split the prize pool, although Richard Bakovic was given the official title of tournament winner.
Richard Bakovic of San Pedro’s previous highest live win was just $4,080, so his latest victory will surely come as a much needed boost to the Californian’s bankroll.
