Delaware iGaming Revenues Rise 36% in January
February 17, 2016 1:05 pmIn the past week, the USA’s two states offering both online poker and casino games released their monthly iGaming revenue results, and the news was positive with New Jersey reporting a record-breaking month with business increasing by 26% to $14.6 million in January, and Delaware also generating its second largest revenues to date of $190,829, up an impressive 36% year-on-year.
Both New Jersey and Delaware also benefitted from the increasing popularity of their online casino and video slot offerings, with New Jersey seeing a 34.6% surge in revenues to around $12.5m, and Delaware generating $164,480 in January, of which $26,089 came from its online casinos, and $138,391 from video lottery games.
These trends reflect a wider movement in the market, as does the two states’ online poker results, both of which continue to head in a downward trajectory. In New Jersey, iPoker revenues subsequently fell by 6.4% to $2.15 million compared to January 2015, while for Delaware the drop was more pronounced with business falling by 16.6% to $26,348 from its three online operations. That figure is even more troubling when one considers that in January 2014 the state’s iPoker earning came in at an impressive $88,588.
Last year, Delaware had been hoping to revive its ailing poker industry after implementing a liquidity sharing agreement with Nevada, but unfortunately both states continue to suffer from less than stellar iPoker industries. New Jersey, on the other hand, is hoping that PokerStars entering its market sometime in the first half of this year might provide just the boost needed to return growth to the industry.
Finally, in January 2016 Delaware reported its biggest number of registrations in almost two years with 456 players signing up for new account at either Dover Downs, Delaware Park or Harrington Raceway. As we have learned, however, it would seem that most of them will be heading for these sites’ video lottery and casino games offerings, instead of their virtual poker tables.
