As befitting its title as the biggest online poker room on the planet, PokerStars has continued to add some of the world’s biggest stars to its list of sponsored ambassadors, including soccer legends Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, and Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, and tennis champions Rafa Nadal, and Boris Becker. Now the reputation of the site has been enhanced further after it was announced that the 8-times Olympic gold medallist winner Usain Bolt will also be taking up a position as a PokerStars brand ambassador. Commenting on its latest signing, VP of Corporate Communications Eric Hollreiser stated:
“Usain Bolt is a fierce competitor who pushes his game to the limits. But he’s also one of the most-liked athletes in the world. His strong global following and winning personality will help us to introduce poker in a fun, social and fast way.”
The sprinter from Jamaica holds the record for the fastest time in the history of the 100 metres, having run the distance in 9.58 seconds back in 2009. Over the years he has also thrilled and delighted audiences across the world who have taken the world’s fastest man to their hearts, but now the 30 year-old is currently playing out his farewell tour, with just stops in Czech Republic, Monaco and London remaining.
In the meantime, Usain Bolt can now look forward to devoting a bit more time to recreational pursuits, like playing live poker tournaments and being involved in marketing campaigns designed to attract new audiences to the popular card game. Recently, the world’s highest paid comedian, Kevin Hart, also threw in his lot with PokerStars, and looking forward to working alongside the actor, comedian, and writer, Bolt commented:
“PokerStars is a winner and I’m happy to join Kevin in helping to bring poker and PokerStars to the masses. It’s a challenging game that’s fun, social and competitive so I’m pleased to be able to introduce it to my fans and to people around the world.”
Usain Bolt’s active social media will also help him further in his endeavors, with the runner known affectionately as the “Lightning Bolt” enjoying 4.71 million followers on Twitter, and a further 19.355 million likes on Facebook.
