Viktor “Isildur1” Blom To Play Unibet Open Cash Game In London

Since Viktor “Isildur1” Blom lost his Full Tilt sponsorship deal in late October, the Swede has disappeared from the site’s high stakes tables, and has only been seen at a few brief sessions on PokerStars. Naturally, rumours have spread the 24 year-old pro may have gone broke, but now it looks like Blom has been offered promotional work by gambling operator Unibet, and could become a Unibet sponsored player in the near future.
On November 14th, Viktor Blom’s twitter account usually reserved for promotional news posted the following message:
“In Macau right now, but planning to play the @unibet cash game before @unibetopen at Aspers in London end of November. Looks fun!”
The fact Blom is already drawing attention to an event not due to take place until the end of November certainly increases the chance of the sponsorship rumor being true. While Unibet has made no official announcement of such a deal, the site did include Viktor Blom in an official tweet mentioning some of the big name pros at its upcoming high stakes cash game:
“Poker greats @ViktorBlom @CrocMonsieur and @SenseiChanning will play in our golden cash game at @Unibet Open London!”
Unibet has enjoyed increased success of late, highlighted by higher revenues and the site moving up to 21st on PokerScout’s ‘Online Poker Traffic Report’ with a seven-day average of 450 cash game players. Therefore, it wouldn’t come as a great surprise if Unibet did try to draw further attention to the site by signing one of the best known pros in the game.
In 2008, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom apparently had a bankroll of $2,000, and by September 2009 had built his bankroll to $1.4 million before moving over to Full Tilt Poker. He subsequently reached a career peak in November having won $6 million from some of the game’s best pros, including  Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, Brian Townsend, Cole South, and Patrik Antonius, but by mid December had given up all his winnings to go $2 million in the hole. Not surprisingly, the story of Isildur1’s rise and fall featured in all the top poker top stories of 2009, and since then Blom has been hired as a sponsored pro at both PokerStars and Full Tilt.
