SuperStar Showdown: Isildur1 Beats Katchalov For $111,750
February 14, 2011 8:47 amThe fourth installment of PokerStars SuperStar Showdown was played yesterday, at the end of which Isildur1 walked away a winner to the tune of $111,750.
During the 4 hour match tournament specialist Eugene “MyRabbitFoo” Katchalov found himself a little out of his depths against cash pro player Isildur1 and the amount he eventually lost was at least twice that given up by previous opponents.
After a slow start, on the 400th hand Isildur (9h-6h) called Katchalov’s (Kh-Qh) all-in shove on a Kd-7d-6d-6s board to rake in a $20,300 pot.
However, Katchalov soon got back into the match helped along by a pre-flop raising war in which he held pocket nines to the Swedes Ah-Qh. Katchalov then hit a set on the flop to scoop the $22,000 pot.
An hour and a half into the match and Katchalov’s slim lead got a whole lot bigger after he was dealt pocket jacks and called Isildur1’s pre-flop five-bet shove (Th-7h) to take down the $30,500 pot.
Viktor “Isildur1” Bloom then got his own back after being dealt pocket aces and calling Katchalov’s preflop five-bet push with pocket eights. Blom won the $29,900 pot and then continued to pull away from his opponent with a $43,100 lead after 1,369 hands complete.
However, any thoughts of Eugene Katchalov mounting a comeback hit a major snag after a hand in which he made an under-set of nines to Isildur1’s set of kings to lose the biggest pot of the night worth $62,500.
Probably the cruelest blow of the match then occurred with Katchalov holding pocket jacks to Blom’s 10-8 on an 8-4-3 flop. Katchalov five-bet all-in his over-pair and despite being a 4-1 favorite an 8 fell on the river to hand Isildur1 the $31,500 pot.
Isildur1 then continued his run and by the 2,307th hand was $100,050 ahead, finally finishing $111,750 up by the end of the 2,500 hand match.
Viktor “Isildur1” Bloom has now impressively won three from four of his SuperStar Showdown matches for a total profit of $166,065. He’ll now be hoping to extend that run on February 27th at 15:00 ET when he faces his next challenger, DodgyFish72.
