Sam Trickett Now Promoting Poker In India

Poker has been growing exponentially across Asia, with the game’s popularity having taken off in a big way in India, a huge country with a population of 1.252 billion people. While online poker on the sub-continent is a grey market, the government still can’t decide whether poker is a game of chance or skill, and so the legality of iPoker is subject to interpretation throughout the country’s various jurisdictions.
One online poker site making ground in India is called Starpoker.in, which is powered by Cyber Gaming Technologies Private Limited, and offers a range of online products described as “100% Legal Poker” on its website. Adding an extra sense of credibility to its reputation, Starpoker.in has now signed UK pro Sam Trickett as a sponsored pro, a player with $20,566,809 in tournament earnings to his name, placing him at number 7 on poker’s ‘All Time Money List.’ The 29 year-old pro will now be expected to represent the site at various tournaments across the globe, as well as playing online at Starpoker.in.
Commenting on his latest sponsorship deal, Trickett said: “I’m happy to confirm that I am the new Poker Brand Ambassador for the top Indian online poker room Starpoker.in for India. I am excited to represent the Indian Poker industry’s authentic poker brand and look forward to promoting poker in India alongside the Starpoker.in team and to interacting with our players online as well.”
While India’s poker market is growing, it is hoped that having a sponsored player with Trickett’s talents onboard may help to spark further interest in the game, and result in more and more players registering for accounts to play poker online. As Starpoker.in Marketing Director, Lina Wang, then explains:
“He is going to be a very valuable addition to the Starpoker.in team. We are very proud to welcome him into the Starpoker.in fold.”
Other Indian players who have also been inspiring their fellow compatriots to take up the game recently include Vivek Rajkumar with $4,427,668 in tournament winnings; Nipun Java with $1,648,712 in winnings; and Aditya Agarwal with $595,290.
