Sam Trickett And Matchbook.com Poker Deal Ends
September 14, 2012 11:53 amOnline betting exchange Matchbook.com and Sam Trickett have now announced they have agreed to end their sponsorship deal after a brief, but highly successful few months.
Ahead of the 2012 WSOP, Matchbook.com unveiled a 10-man team of sponsored pros to promote their site. Although the betting exchange doesn’t have a poker product, it still is involved in poker betting and was able to tap into the lucrative betting market for this year’s World Series of Poker.
The company obviously chose well after signing the 26 year old UK pro, as Sam Trickett placed 2nd at the highly anticipated $1 million One Drop tournament for a staggering $10,112,001 payday. Consequently, Trickett has now become Europe’s all-time money winner, and is currently ranked 3rd on Poker’s ‘All Time Money List.’
Commenting on their partnership, a spokesman for Matchbook.com said: “Our sponsorship strategy with Sam has always been targeted towards the Big One for One Drop event. While we do expect to maintain an interest in poker moving forward through a variety of poker markets for popular European and worldwide events, Matchbook now looks to focus on its core business as a sports betting exchange.”
Heaping praise upon their association with Sam Trickett, the spokesman added that Trickett proved a huge asset for Matchbook and that they were honoured to have had Trickett representing the site. He also highlighted the magnitude of Trickett’s achievements and said it wouldn’t be long before one of the big poker sites offered him a new sponsorship deal. In the meantime, Trickett has already become an ambassador for the International Stadiums Poker Tour (ISPT).
A last chance to see Trickett representing Matchbook.com can be seen later this year on UK TV, when a documentary charting Trickett’s rise to poker prominence, as well as his involvement in the WSOP One Drop tournament, will be released. Commenting on his time with Matchbox, Sam Trickett said:
“I’m extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to compete in the biggest tournament in this history of poker and it was an experience that will live for me forever..It’s been a lot of fun filming this and I’m looking forward to seeing the outcome myself.”
